Surfer: Kim Mearig
Location: Santa Barbara
Year: 1983

Kim Mearig, shot shortly after signing a sponsorship deal with Ocean Pacific sportswear. By the end of ’83 she had won the Op Pro, SURFER Magazine’s annual Reader’s Poll, and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) women’s world title. Not a bad year for a shy Santa Barbara surfer just barely out of her teens.
